Also, depending on your /etc/fstab file, you may need to specify the file system type with your mount command with the "-t" option. When the drive is connected to a USB port and powered on, Windows detects the drive and assigns it the next available drive letter. It is possible to manually mount the drive to a folder on another drive, or assign a different drive letter. The contents of the drive appear when the folder or drive letter mount point is clicked. The contents of the drive can be accessed and modified in multiple locations. Use the Windows XP DISKPART command line utility to manually mount USB drives. Instructions 1 Connect the USB drive to the computer. 2 Click the "Start" button, "All Programs," "Accessories," then "Command Prompt." Type "diskpart" then press Enter. 4 Type "list volume" then press Enter. Note the volume number of the USB drive in the list. The entry in the "LTR" column is the same as the letter assigned to the drive by Windows. 5 Type "select volume <#>," where "<#>" is the volume number of the USB drive, then press Enter. 6 Type "assign letter=" and then press Enter to mount the drive to a different drive letter. Replace "" with an available drive letter. 7 Type "assign mount=" and then press Enter to mount the drive to a folder. Replace "" with an existing path on another drive. For example, "assign mount=c:\usbdrive" mounts the drive to the c:\usbdrive folder, so that the USB drive's contents appear when that folder is opened. Tips & Warnings Un-mount the drive using the "remove mount=" or "remove letter=" command, where or is the previously specified mount point. USB flash drives cannot be accessed or mounted using DISKPART. Enclose the folder path in quotation marks if it contains a space. The mount point folder must exist before the command is executed, or an error will appear. Exercise extreme caution with this procedure. Using DISKPART incorrectly can cause permanent data loss or make the system unbootable. Ensure that all important data is backed up before proceeding.

See the second Resource on how to burn a CD using tools included in Windows. 5 Insert the Flash drive or CD into the PS3. 6 Go to the "Settings" column of the PS3 main menu, select "System Settings," then "Install Other OS." The PS3 then searches for and starts installing the boot loader from the Flash drive or CD. 7 From the "Settings" column again, select "System Settings," then "Default System." Choose "Other OS" from the options listed on the right. 8 Burn the .iso of your Linux distribution of choice to a CD, if you want to boot the PS3 from a CD. If you're using a Flash drive, see the third Resource on how to put a running Linux installation on a Flash drive. 9 Remove any disc already in the PS3 and turn it off. 10 Insert the CD or Flash drive. The Flash drive goes into one of the PS3's USB ports, located on the front face, in the bottom right-hand corner. If you insert a CD, the PS3 automatically turns on. 11 Turn on the PS3, if it hasn't turned itself on already. Select your Linux distribution from the boot loader menu to boot the PS3 from the Flash drive or CD.

HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 4 Download "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool." Double-click "SP27068.exe." This is the file name for the tool. An installation wizard appears. Click "Run" and choose "Next" on the first window. Click "I accept the terms of this license agreement." Click "Next" two times, select "OK," choose "Next," then click "Finish" to complete the installation wizard. 5 Go to "Start", select "All Programs," choose "Hewlett-Packard" and select "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool." 6 Choose the USB thumb drive letter for the first field. Go to "Start" and select "My Computer" if you do not know the thumb drive letter. It will tell you the drive letter. Choose the "FAT32" option under "File Format" and type in a name for the drive. Click "Start." 7 Go to "Start," select "My Computer" or "Computer." Select the "C" drive. Locate "BOOT.INI," "NTLDR" and "NTDETECT." Copy these files to the flash drive once the format is complete. This USB stick is now bootable. Windows Format (Windows Vista and 7 Only) 8 Click "Start," select "All Programs" and choose "Accessories." Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select the "Run As Administrator" option. 9 Type in "diskpart" and press "Enter." Type "list disk" then hit "Enter." Make a note of the thumb drive number displayed after "list disk" runs. 10 Hit "Enter" following each of the next commands.Type "Select Disk Number." Change "Number" to the number of your USB drive. Type "Clean." Type "Create Partition Primary." Type "Select Partition 1." Type "Active." Type "Format FS=NTFS." Type "Assign." Type "Exit." 11 Put the Windows CD into the optical drive. Type "D:CD BOOT" and replace the D: with the drive letter of your CD drive. Hit "Enter." Type "BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 E:" where E is the drive letter of the USB thumb drive. This creates a bootable Flash drive.
