How to Copy Outlook Express Emails to a Flash Drive in Windows XP Outlook Express stores copies of your email messages on your computer's hard drive for later retrieval. You can back up these email messages to any location you like, including a Universal Serial Bus (USB) flash drive, by copying them to a new folder. You can then create a new folder and copy files on a flash drive exactly as you would on your hard drive. If your email messages become lost or corrupted later on, you can restore them later using the flash drive backup. If you are using multiple identities in Outlook Express, you must create a separate backup for each identity. Instructions 1 Insert the flash drive in a USB port on your computer. Click "Start," "All Programs" and "Outlook Express." Click "Tools" and "Options," then click the "Maintenance" tab. Click the "Store Folder" button. Right-click the location under "Your personal message store is located in the following folder," then click "Select All" to select the DBX files. Right-click the location again, then click "Copy." 2 Click "Start" and "Run." Select any text within the text field. Right-click the field, then click "Paste." Click "OK." Click "Edit" and "Select All." Click "Edit" and then "Copy." 3.Click "Start" and "My Computer" to open Windows Explorer. Double-click your flash drive. Click "File," "New" and "Folder." Rename the folder with a name such as "Outlook Express Email Backup," then press "Enter." Double-click the email backup folder to open it. Right-click within the Windows Explorer window, then click "Paste." 4 Click "File" and "Switch Identity" to create a backup for another identity. Select the identity and click "OK." Create a separate email backup folder on the flash drive, then copy the email messages into the folder. Tips & Warnings You can also click "Edit" and "Copy to Folder" to copy your email messages to a flash drive. Create a new email backup on the flash drive each time you download messages in Outlook Express. To restore your Outlook Express email messages, you must copy and paste all the DBX files back into the original email storage folder using the "Import" command from the "File" menu.
